A no show
from Spandex gifted three points and a 4-0 win to those teams drawn in
Group I.
Both Apcon
and Polnobanka were impressive throughout group qualification and won
their respective groups, the latter with 100%, the former, with an
incredible defensive record, finally conceding their first goal when they
met Polnobanka in the final. Polnobanka played eight games and
impressively won all of them.
Polnobanka's defensive record was dented in the quarter-final when they
came up against tournament hosts and underdogs Slovpro FC, however, always
seemingly in control, the final score ended 5-3 to the favourites.
The
holders, ESSO, battled hard in qualification and edged out last year's
runners-up Eximbanka in the group phase, knocking them out. They then came
up against stiff competition in the quarter-finals though, and were sent
packing by Apcon, losing 4-1.
Hy-BA were
surprise contenders for the 3rd place play-off match. Having given
Alcatel, who qualified 2nd in their group, a 4-0 licking they then went
onto lose heavily to Apcon but bounced back against SME in the 3rd place
match. HY-BA and SME had met in a group match which was even at 1-1, but
the 3rd place match seemed a little one-sided, HY-BA winning 4-1.
